Striped!

Wednesday, January 30, 2008

Prints are everywhere this spring - stars at YSL and Chanel, abundant florals, oversized polka dots, even bats at Luella. Prints are one of those things that tend to make you feel nauseous after a while, indeed many have suffered from print overload! I'm not over enthusiastic about all these prints and patterns. Although, I do like the soft florals, I think it's a little too cold yet to be frolicking about in flowery tea dresses and floaty, summer frocks. There is one pattern however that it always in fashion and that's the stripe.

The stripe is one of those items that is associated with so many things - there's the Parisian Stripe, a personal favourite when teamed with a sweet beret, there's the Pirate Stripe, bold but quite fun too, the 60s Stripe, another favourite, think Edie and Twiggy, teamed with thick black tights, the Nautical stripe, chic and glamorous, channel the look of the rich and the beautiful yachting in St. Tropez, the Preppy Stripe, tennis and polo, boarding school prep and tea and scones, the Candy Stripe, sugary sweet, My Little Ponies and ice cream sundaes, the Classic Stripe, elegant and feminine, a favourite for fashion icons like Kate and Audrey.

Audrey wears the Classic stripe, always simple and elegant. Twiggy in a youthful, 60s' striped mini dress
Alexa and Sienna prove the stripe to be a must for any wardrobe. The stripe is something that never goes out of style.

Kate wears a classic striped jumper with black tights for a 60s' twist. Kirsten wears the Parisian Stripe complete with a beret.

Of course Brigitte wears a Parisian -esque stripe although with her hooped earrings it is almost a Pirate stripe. Edie is nonchalant in cool 60s' stripes.

Classic, elegant stripes at Carolina Herreara and a striped circus - esque blazer at Chanel

St. Tropez perfect stripes at Paul Smith and a cute, funky striped jumper at Louis Vuitton

Moody - cool stripes at Armani and paint box brights at Louis Vuitton

Preppy striped tees at Lacoste perfect for a spot of tennis. Striped tube top at Betsy, super for the roller disco.

Serious prep at Paul Smith - the 'Bookish Stripe'. Ahoy, Pirate stripes at Gautier

Stripey details at Paul Smith and Betsy Johnson - sophisticated scarf tie and kitsch 50s' bathing costume.

Frosty Eyes on a Sunny Get Away

Saturday, January 26, 2008

Alexis Bleden. The first physical feature that comes to mind is her killer icy blue eyes or her almost as fabulous, reddish brown hair. I wanted to create a outfit that plays up her almost crayon color eyes with some crayon colors and i am really in the mood for a warmer getaway. And maybe gave her a vintagey vibe to step up her fashion icon status. For the icon part, u need iconic style. Audrey Hepburn "Sabrina" style pants are a great spring wardrobe addition.

A candy colored jacket is wick sweet. Little vintage jackets add a air of chic that otherwise is unobtainable.
Her eyes have a crayon like color and adding a crayon yellow and a green strip will make them pop! Candy/crayon colors(in my personal prediction) will be hot for spring because i'm getting major cabin fever and it's only January.
A big graphic bag to tie all the colors together.
Ship-style shoes for a mid-winter getaway will look perfect and make u fit in your rich hotel.
These sunglasses will make her hair completely brighter.

Park(a) Life

Friday, January 25, 2008

It's January and it's cold and coats just keep popping into my mind. I think I can say that we all have probably enough of lux winter coats at this stage which is why I rather randomly thought of posting about the parka/anorak. Yes, certainly rather random but I can not help but feel a little fond of the parka, despite it being rather removed from my style. I did however purchase a new coat for school recently. An rich purple anorak more then a parka, bear in mind though that the terms parka and anorak generally mean the same thing, although a parka is often considered to be fur trimmed. My anorak is however a bit more feminine then the Britpop anorak as it's satin with a great hem (quite similar to the Paul Smith ones below). 60s' mod in wearing a classic fish tail parka

I guess I am quite partial to the parka because it was a symbol of the mod subculture in the 60s and the mod subculture being something I am rather fascinated with. The parka was seen as the ideal garment when on the mods' vehicle of choice - the scooter, due to it's practicality, as well as it's availability and cheapness. Indeed the parka is as much an iconic mod symbol as the air force/target symbol is. It is fair to say too that the parka/anorak wasn't always that scruffy thing that it appears to be nowadays, the mods afer all were sharp dressers.

Rocking the parka and in typical 60s fashion, accompanied with a scooter

Enter the 90s and the parka is out and about again. This time a little scruffier and generally not accompanying any Lambrettas. Britpop groups like The Verve, Oasis and Blur, the latter two being especially infatuated with the 60s mod sounds of The Kinks and The Who and of course The Beatles, sported their parkas and anoraks with a sense of national pride. Liam Gallagher did of course go that step further with the not - exactly - mod John Lennon glasses. Nevertheless the parka/anorak was an icon once again.

Liam Gallagher sports the iconic parka

Enough with the history lesson, when all I am trying to say is that as a person who enjoys elaborate dressing up to a rather worrying degree, I cannot help but be slightly partial to the sloppy and perhaps even ugly anorak. Perhaps I have just lost my mind but I'm sure there's an inner parka wearer in us all! But if you are still unsure just look at some of the parkas/anoraks that appeared on the runway, rather cool, yes?!

The parka appears on the runway at Paul Smith Women and Topshop Unique

Note- I apologise for my long absence and will be returning all those lovely comments as quickly as possible. And yes, I know this is a very random post but I live in a rainy country where an anorak is quite handy as well as being a fashion icon!

Grocery Store Galmorous

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

We have all seen the pics of our favorite celebs going out to the grocery store and they all seem 2 look amazing. Totally not reachable for us normal people? Think again you very stupid people(sorry for all those people with the wrong answer).
My favorite Grocery wearing celebrity had to be Rachel Bilson and maybe Micha Barton from a few years ago. Lov'en these girl. So for all those who like them as well, i hope this outfit pleases your eyes.
Your favorite hoodie but spiced up with lacy accents.
Compared to all of the electrically color jeans going around, i kinda favor the more muted ones.
A cute warm thermal to keep you hot without a coat.
Now here's were the Micha comes in, add these funky vintagey heels and you got every head turned towards you.
A classic bigger black bag.
And simple vintagey earrings.

Have a happy week!~Izzy

Rebel Without a Cause

Monday, January 14, 2008

In school we were reading the book The Outsiders and to get us into the mood of the story, my fabulous ELA teacher had us watch Rebel Without a Cause. No one in my class really got the brilliance of it but i love it! I got a thing for old movies and lov'en this one, it very cute and i think every1 needs to watch it before we get 2 old.The whole point of this whole speech is that i took James Dean killer red jacket and made a more modern and wearable for a chick. I found it at Urban Outfitter's and nearly flipped because i have been looking for this type of jacket 4ever! So here is my simply wonderful outfit from me and James Dean.

I am Running Away to Hollywood

Just Kidding! I totally wish! In my hometown, it's snowing like mad. Just last week it was around sixty degrees and now we got about a foot of snow, crazy New England weather.
But if i was running away i think i would go and rad Kate Hudson wardrobe. Not the first person i would have thought of but after following her style for a while i think her closet would be kinda interesting. Today(being a snow day for us in all) we will be learning the art of Kate Hudson's Way of looking Casual But Still Cute 101. When we go back to school tomorrow we will be in the know. Miss. Izzy(me) will be teaching you the basics. Lesson 1~ Tees. Pull out your favorite tee.(If you don't have one, please enjoy the ones listed below that your fabulous teacher has picked out for you.) Now to get the whole 80's look, cut the collar. If you are unsure if you love the look, steal one of your dad's old shirt and try it out on that(if you don't love it then now you have a pj top).

Lesson 2~ The Black Pant. Your black skinny will work fine but a newer things are catching my eye. They are straight-legged black suit pants. They look a little like skinnies but they are more tailored and get more uses.(i like these ones from Old Navy)

Lesson 3~ Gladiators. Kate's a famous(at least in my mind) for these lovely shoes. Lov'en these ones from Urban Outfitter's.

Lesson 4~ Extras. Their are no real rules when it comes to your extras. As long as they are in good taste and add your own flair to your outfit, they are fine.
Do you guys want more teachings or more me just randomly creating outfits? Needing some idea.

A Friend Long Lost

Thursday, January 10, 2008

I am the only one that notices that Mischa Barton as all about disappeared off the blogging radar. This girl has got serious style that has seemed to be lost over last year but i do hope that this year brings her more luck! We can only hope! but anyways, to help her get back in2 the blogging limelight, i have made her a killer outfit that will make every1 jealous! enjoy! Let us start with a stripped turtleneck(though, i am not a big fan of these, this 1 is really light and form fitting) from American Eagle.

Pair a cute black vest from Forever21 to make the blue color pop!
Plus, black pants from American Eagle clearance to still make the top center stage.
With all this black, shoes from Urban Outfitter's should do the trick.
Take a tip from Marc Jacob and had a big hat. Ans i just found these earring irresistible!
