will I?

I have such a craving to cut my hair short at the moment. Perhaps, not as short as this girl's (a still from Hitchcock's The Lodger) but certainly something shorter than its current length, something nipped in at the nape of the neck. Lets not beat around the bush, anyone who knows me, or indeed reads this blog on a regular basis, will be fully aware of my tremendous mane of curls. I have a helluva lot of hair and there comes a time, when it's just too much! I have been thinking this over with some weeks now and am pretty much on the verge of cutting it. I really want a flapper hair cut!

be a doll, won't you

A strange hybrid of the romantic, gothic and cartoon present in the 'dos at Chanel Haute Couture.
These are kind of my favourite ever styles at a runway show, well at least in recent memory. Heartshaped blooms of wispy silver streaked hair fixed with a frayed bow in dreamy shades of soft rose, mauve and grey- blue. Current hair inspiration certainly, despite that there is definitely something of the creepy, antique doll about these hairdos, perhaps, that is part of the oddly mesmerising appeal..

I have been obsessed with satchels and satchel like handbags with months now. Someone please buy me one..preferably Chloe's take on the trend (above, left), thank you, it would be much appreciated!

Jokes aside, that Chloe is a beauty. It may not be a satchel exactly, but it has that feel, what with the rusty brown leather, clasp and spaciousness. Perfect for stuffing notebooks scrawled with miscellaneous ramblings and boiled sweets and a suitably rounded stub of lipstick in. In my head this bag once belonged to a 1940s' secretary with secret poetry - writing tendencies...shush, I tend to romanticize..

I have reached the point where the mere thought of a winter coat makes me angry. It appears to me, unless you have some magnificent wardrobe that contains a different coat for each day of the week, the winter coat becomes a very tedious item to wear, as lets be honest about it, the majority of us only have one or two. I'm beginning to get quite irritated with the fact that every upcoming outfit idea is suddenly shattered by the dreary reality that it's bloody cold out. With the past few weeks blended into our memories as one long cold, icy stretch surely I'm not the only one yearning for a sprinkling of soft spring sunshine and the possibility of stepping out in a little jacket or blazer and shock horror - sans scarf?

Often when I look at fashion blogs coming from a similar climate as mine, I have to wonder how they are keeping the cold out. As despite the cold snap that so many of us have endured in recent weeks, many fashion blogs didn't seemed to acknowledge in terms of their attire the freezing conditions on their doorstep. However, I'm quite sure, that they like me, were only trying to avoid the reality for a little while that a big, thick, sensible coat was an inevitability, something which they did not want to come to terms with! No matter how much inspiration we possess, we will still all wind up being influenced most significantly by what lies outside our window.

Which brings me to say the sooner this chilly cold spell begins to defrost the better. In the meantime there's always the spring/summer shows..time to be reacquainted..Right now I'm crushing Danielle Scutt's collection - those skater dresses and little maching jackets - and Marc by Marc Jacobs - I would wear it all, even the men's! It manages to feature so many factors beloved of me - zany pattern mixing, fifties skirts paired with constrasting casuals, jackets with peaked shoulders and big, silly, whimsical hair bows.

There was a time when I frequently posted about celebrity fashion; now, not so much - only a select few. That is not to say that I'm disinterested in celebrity style, I still very much enjoy an aul gawk at what the celebs are wearing. Indeed, I'm the sort of person who deems it a waste of money to buy magazines like Look, yet, I am perfectly happy to read them cover to cover in the newsagents! It's hard not to love the old fashioned razzmatazz of award ceremonies and I will always be interested in what the red carpet has to offer. Saying that though, I wasn't overly enthused with the Golden Globes' offerings, but hey the Oscars won't be long now..

January Jones is the sort of girl that could wear a potato sack and a tea cosy on her head and still look gorgeous. This may be a very simple, a very straight, black column Lanvin, but somehow, with that ribbon in her hair and those red lips, it's quite special...it does help that I'm a big Betty Draper fan though..

Ashley wore this Erdem to an after show party. Usually, I'm not a fan of royal blue, but this little party frock might just convert me. Perhaps, it is the juxtaposition between that wonderful, intricate, petal - like collar with Ashley's trademark slightly unkempt hair.
Chloe also wore this dress to an after show party. I really appreciated her floaty, pastel Valentino, and jeez, i think we all felt her pain when it was stepped on! You know me though - I aways fall hard for the full - skirted glitter.

hell ya!

Do this pictures of Abbey Lee Kershaw (ID winter edition 2009) make anyone else want to get their nose pierced? She manages to pull off the very difficult 'ring through the nose' without sacrificing an ounce of femininity. Perfect example of edgy romance surely, what with that tousled hair and cuddly wools and sooty eyes. Respect!

One of my favourite editorials from last year was the smartly - punkish 'I only met her today but I feel this' courtesy of Elle UK's October issue. Grunge may be overdone, but I think this editorial put a shiny new spin on things. It's not all woolly greys and scruffy beanies and monochrome, but rather a sort of cheery take on the trend. Knits mixed with leather and sparkles and girly tulle and tweed and plaid - a dazzling plethora of fabrics energetically mixed and matched with..I hate to use the cliche..attitude, but a certain fun and youthful attitude that's unafraid of adding colour. Plus, truly awesome Charles Anastase platform boots are featured..um yes!
The above images can be now found on my inspiration board. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before I try something vaguely similar albeit without the lovely zing of colour present in the editorial - another reminder of the lack of bright colour in my wardrobe. Regardless, it's the patchwork of fabrics I'm interested in, combining sequins, leather, denim and grey jersey.

Featuring the ridiculously pretty Faye Dunaway as notorious bank robber Bonnie Parker, Bonnie and Clyde, turns out to be quite the unexpected fashion flick..ugh cheesy alliteration..but you know what I mean! Not only is Dunaway excellent in the role, but boy does she look the part. Bearing a striking resemblance to Kate Moss, with blonde bobbed hair, Dunaway sashays about her criminal episodes in breezy blouses, checkered trenches, elegant A - line skirts and of course, her iconic beret and neck scarfs. It's all very chic for a supposed bank robber.

Oh and so much more to behold than that classic press shot of Dunaway leaning against a getaway car in a mustard wool sweater.
