Anyone who watched the recently finished latest series of Skins, I think, would have been fairly disappointed. Twas fairly rubbish, wasn't it? Well at least I thought so...it was all a bit contrived and well, dare I say it, silly...I mean that John Foster malarkey...one could only laugh. Ah, but I digress. Skins has always...hmm, that makes it sounds as though Skins has been around as long as Coronation Street, you know what I mean though...depicted the cool, hip, misunderstood indie kids that we all secretly kind of want to be despite their ridiculously troubled lives. Of course, the majority of the characters over the past four series have been quite the stylish folk too which can only ever help. After the first lot of characters headed off to...well where ever they headed off to, I don't quite recollect..and the new posse came bursting onto the scene, more badass than ever before, the bulk of its audience remained reminiscing a bit too much about the old crowd.

The new crowd (and I dread to think what kind the new new crowd will be like) could never quite tap into the viewers in the way Tony and his lot did. Perhaps, I'm wrong but out of all the characters Cassie was definitely among everyone's favourites. I know this is so long ago and I do not even have enough fingers on my hand to count how many 'Cassie's Style' posts I have read over the years, but really her styling was pure genius..and well genius can only ever be celebrated with people like me sitting around reminiscing about the good ol' times when Cassie lit up the screen in her flowy skirts and kitsch -y tops. Once again a post..(probably, or maybe a few more secretly want to reminisce too?)..for moi.

I love the look in the top right with the 50s' dog pattern skirt, coral socks and dotted tights.

The look in the top left was one of my fave Cassie outfits..the mixture of the 'mammy - ish' floral top and sequins is nothing short of perfect..and my goodness, I have tried and failed to recreate that hairdo. Cassie often wore magnificent spangly/shiny pieces clashed with showstopping scarlet lips.

Ah Cassie's sailor top surely must have spawned a thousand blog posts...stuff of dreams, so it was. Note too, Cassie's penchant for quirky jewellery, bottom right.

I don't think anyone has yet forgotten the scene where Cassie wears that outfit (bottom middle). The legendary sunglasses, the hat, the florals...why can't we all dress like this?

This feels like a very me me me post..but, sure I thought I would share. As many of you know I went off to Galway over the weekend for the Irish Blog Awards. Congratulations are in order for Beaut.ie for winning the best fashion/beauty blog category. I was pretty happy just to be there and you know, it was a nice chance to dress up, something I aways relish! Now the dreaded - 'this is what I wore' without any explanation other than..um..that...
It all, somehow, got very hippy - ish..flowers and headbands and embroidery.
I met the lovely Ali of Soooali at the awards. It was so nice to chat to a fellow Irish fashion blogger - the ins and outs, the trials and tribulations, eh!

The following morning my parents and I went for a very therapeutic walk along Salthill promenade. A world away from my typically sleepy..see lazy..Sunday mornings.

all the pretty ladies

There is always something so lovely about Sonia Rykiel's collections that I can never quite put my finger on. Maybe, it has something to do with the smiley models and the happy - clappy procession at the end of the shows, or maybe, it is quite simply that her clothes are nice. Yes, nice, not the most awe - inspiring of adjectives there, but that is perhaps, that is never something you would associate with a Rykiel collection. That is not too say a bad thing though. I am advocate of things to be just nice sometimes, there's no need for this big, deep meaning behind everything, and Rykiel's clothes just kind of get on with. Pretty, feminine and wearable, but oh so pretty..

Rykiel clearly knows how to have some fun too..as always so wonderfully exemplified by her brigade of non - scowling, high - fiving models..but in her clothes too. The pom - pom hats..I mean! Need I say more? Love! Silly, yes, a bit random, yes def, but yeah, why not? It's fashion afterall! And what's more, I always think when looking at Sonia Rykiel collection, 'Now, here's a collection for women'. Rykiel designs the kind of clothes that women really do want to wear.

Long lengths, plenty knits, blush pink, grey, white tights, some masculine tailoring, slouchy pieces...Rykiel, obviously knows the way to my heart..
PS. Off to Galway tomorrow for the Irish Blog Awards...best of luck to everyone.

all the cool kids are at it

Looks like it is almost time to be sticking some shades on..or perhaps, that could be me being a tad too hopeful..

You know, a part of me wishes I was a colourful dresser..in the literal rainbow - bright sense. There is something so refreshing about seeing someone willing to wear jovial bursts of colour, because lets cut to the chase here, the majority of us are pretty dull and boring, me included, wearing sombre gradations of grey/black/denim on a daily basis. It all gets a bit tedious and dreary really, especially that whole concept of to be 'fashion' one must wear head - to - toe slimming black. I'm a bit scared of zingy oranges, pillar box red and acidic greens and yellows, and I'm not alone am I? There is all that jazz about hair/skin tones and looking pale and putrid in brights..which let's be honest about it, might have some truth in it... but, I am not suggesting we transform ourselves into living, breathing boxes of Crayola, but rather a mere inclusion of some of those scarier colours into our everyday outfits.

That is the reason why I love Louise Gray's collections - they are fun and colourful. They have a lovely childishness to them, a mish - mash, anything goes quality that surely can only be admired in a time when fashion most certainly appears to take its self too seriously. Truth be told, Louise Gray's s/s collection is a world away from my own personal style, yet somehow, it makes me smile. There's plenty random layering going on with fluffy boots and pastel runners, bowler hats, patchwork, geometric shapes - once again Gray opts for a jester - like aesthetic, rendering it all as bit of good old fashioned dress - up box fun.

It was only by chance, looking through my saved images, that I noticed a kind of happy incidental likeness between some Picasso paintings and Gray's collection - they appear to correspond nicely due to the clashing shapes and colours of each and an obvious dismissal of the expected.

Spring finally seems to be in the air. And, suddenly, all those wools..yes, I know, I only praised them a few posts back, but what can I say, I'm fickle... seem so stuffy and tired. I kind of want to run away into a meadow now, with fresh flowers in my hair and a picnic basket swinging from my arm. Yes, this is what one bright evening does to one's head..and maybe, the fact that I really should be studying right now. I am also experiencing a bit of a magpie moment too..as in an odd desire for crystals to cling to my clothes. Perhaps, not that odd really, when one considers Miu Miu's magnificent s/s collection..and the fact that major girl crush Chloe Sevigny has worked some of the pieces...Elle UK, anyone? Basically, I want to hide all the dreary things in my wardrobe and sparkle in crystal adorned pastels a la Miu Miu.

Not just that though..there's a colour that I think could be having a bit of a moment shortly..a colour I don't think I have worn in a long time, if ever really. So take the crystal idea, and the wild flower field and wear... some pale blue to match the pretty clear skies overhead. This probably comes across as quite delirious right now..which is sort of how I am feeling..on a coffee/study procrastinating high..but, it seems like a sweet, dreamy vision. The inspiration? Alexa, of course in Chanel at the recent - ish Elle Style Awards. I think I had seen this dress before, but only over the weekend, it suddenly, dawned on me.. excuse the lame phrase.. 'Fashion Moment'. Yes, currently having a minor love affair with this.

I am extremely surprised to be one of the five blogs nominated for Best Fashion/Beauty blog at the upcoming Irish Blog Awards. Although I have been blogging with over two and half years, this is my first time being nominated. I was delighted to be even featured on the long list and never would have imagined to make it to the final round. I would therefore, just like to say a big, and very heart felt thank you to all those who nominated me and to the judges for thinking my blog good enough to be in the esteemed company of the other four nominees. I blog first and foremost, very selfishly, may I add, for myself. I see She's in Vogue as my own little mental space in a way, an outlet for the sometimes strange activity going on in my head. Therefore, the knowledge that others read this, check it up and enjoy it, is really quite an odd, but most certainly lovely thing.
Thanks to all and do check out the other nominees here.

she's a lady

Hmmm I have been humming and hawing over doing this post with so long...really because, you know, who isn't a fan of Betty Draper, and well I guess I thought it would be kind of boring and 'done before'. But, then I thought, hold up here a sec, this is your blog Kitty, and if you want to indulge in a bit of Betty lovin' then hell, why not? Truth is, there has not been enough Mrs. Draper appreciation here at all, and in my opinion, that is a shame. The woman has to be television's best dressed lady, a constant source of elegance amid our jeans/hoodie obsessed society.

As much as I adore Mad Men (as do so many of my fellow bloggers), I realised that only about three people I know in my everyday life actually watch the show.. a shocking statistic, certainly! Therefore, this is also for the friends who read this blog and who I think would really like, even if they are not Mad Men aficionados, Betty's chic early 60s' attire.

Watching the show with my mother and sister, Betty's outfits always get a gasp from us. Almost every shot of a Betty outfit deserves to be paused as Bets looks impeccable consistently..even when she's wearing casual summer dresses and smoking at the kitchen table. The handbags, the hair, the full skirts, the ball gowns, the gloves, the red lipstick, the cigarettes, Betty is the tragic beauty with the most wonderful wardrobe. As much as the office banter scenes are interesting and culturally relevant, I have to admit, I'm generally just sitting there really waiting for another Betty scene as let's be honest about it, even if the show had terrible story lines (which it must certainly does not) one would probably still tune in just to gawp at Betty's latest wardrobe change.

So maybe, this Sunday, instead, of throwing on a pair of 'seen - better - days' jeans and a crumpled t - shirt, perhaps, tie a ribbon in your hair and prance about in an 'oh - so - pretty' printed dress. Do smile though, poor Betty scowls far too often..

I decided to dedicate this post to my dear friend..slash prospective sister in law..Michele, who also just happens to be the most avid reader of this blog. The other day she specifically requested an outfit post, and well, here it is!

It seems so obvious to celebrate lace at the moment..as if you have been any where at all near a shop lately, you will be aware of the abundance of lacey femininity. I'm not complaining though..hence, the little lace loving going on here. In fact, my recent lace purchases are making me wonder why do not I own more of it.

Lace on lace probably is not the greatest of ideas, but regardless, I found myself liking the somewhat sickly clash of the blush lace skirt and the apple green lace top. The best part of this outfit though has to be my new shoes. I am only just a little in love with them right now..in that way that I had to announce to all on Facebook how much I adore them. I really do though. Having been eying them up with months now, I actually cannot believe that they are finally mine. I should be appalled right now by how much this material possession has made me happy..

I have always been one for a woolly jumper. Some may say, they are for grannies, but not me. No, I am a firm advocate of that comfy piece of wooliness, and although, spring may be awakening, there's still enough of a chill in the air here to warrant a woolly. I like, especially, when they are thrown on over random dresses and skirts - its a nice contrast that kind of says: ' ooh I just got a wee shiver there and threw this on.' (Um yes, I'm not sure why I want my clothes to suggest this, but you know, whatevs.) I enjoy the rural/farmer connotations too, or sort of remniscent of Keira Knightley's and Sienna Miller's wardrobes in the mediocre 'The Edge of Love'..that film was so forced, but still the outfits were cosy goodness with plenty floral/wool juxtapositions to keep me happy.

I have certainly posted about this little love affair in the past, but my appreciation was reinforced after seeing Nicholas Hoult's angora sweater in 'A Single Man' over the weekend. As much as the other outfits were sinfully beautiful and chic, that beigh/fuzzy sweater and neat checked shirt combo had me smiling foolishly in my seat. It just looked so warm and comfy!

Oscars tonight, naturally I'm excited to see what the red carpet has to offer. The red carpet unfortunately, generally leaves me down. It tends to be pretty safe, fairly dull and too much asymmetrical shouldered dresses and Heidi Klum swanning about in red ruffles. I can still look forward to it though, after all, someone might surprise. If not, here is what my dream red - carpet would display this year. Looking back over my choices, it's easy to see that am quite enamoured with sheer, dusty pink and frothy white frocks currently. I like my women to be princesses!

hey julia

I was supposed to be studying right now, but the mind can't help but wander. Currently, it has drifted into that wonderful sphere that is Julia Frakes' style. Julia has quite the magical style really - geek glasses, pork pie and boater hats, tights in quirky shades of lemon, lime and plum, swishy zany -printed skirts and hair bows. Julia manages to pull off the difficult crazy - eccentric look with a vitality and youthfulness that can surely only be admired. She takes chances but nothing comes across as try hard but rather put together in a way that suggests: 'I thought this would look fun, so why not?' Julia dresses fun, and really isn't that the only way one ought to ever dress?
